What is Expressive Arts?
Expressive art uses different art creation techniques, such as painting, drawing, dancing, poetry, and photography as a way to explore ourselves and our place in the world. We use our 5 senses to explore the process of art creation – what we see, hear, taste, smell, and feel as we create art allows us to connect to ourselves in a different way. Exploring our body tension, colors used, textures, rhythm, weight, shapes, and our energy levels can all contribute to the expressive art process.
Basically, our art becomes the bridge between our inner and outer worlds. We express our
internal world into the art, and in turn we can ask the art what it wants us to know or learn about
ourselves.
How is CRIPSiE using Expressive Arts?
We have started a monthly expressive art group that invites us to be creative and then explore
our art. We then share our art and learnings with each other. The sharing of our art is a very important part of the process – it connects us because we get to see a glimpse into each other’s internal worlds – we might learn more about each other’s emotions, thoughts, imaginings, memories, experiences, and ways of being.
Please join us in our monthly expressive art group on the last Sunday of each month from 6-7pm via Zoom.
